Dales and e-dales
Posted by Skytower on Tue May 6, 2008
Sorry, it was a bit of a silly play on words that I couldn’t resist. But, today was indeed the first “proper” day out of 2008 (ignoring the canal walk and the “business” trip to Blackpool), in the lovely Peak District area of Edale.
To cut a long story short (because I do have photos, and minor tales to tell – but right now, I ache, I feel filthy, and thus need a bath and then bed), it was a lovely ten mile walk (at a guess), from the train station at Edale right up onto the Kinder Plateau – which, in case any naive reader is wondering, has nothing to do with eggs.
Oh, and back down again, of course.
The factor 15 seems to have eliminated any sunburn this time (unlike the canal walk the other week when I was using factor zero), but the body is aching a tad more. This is probably due to the amount of ascending and descending that took place – fell walking is not something I’ve done for a few years, for some unknown reason.
I’ll touch on this more over the next day or two once I’ve transferred the photos from the camera to the laptop, and then from the laptop to the main computer, and then from the main computer to WordPress… and so on… and you get the picture (edit: one photo has been inserted, the rest will follow).
Right now, it is time for a soak.

Stu said,
One of my favourite areas for walking. I’ve always loved the edges around Kinder Scout but never seen much appeal in actually yomping across all those peat groughs up on top which to me seems a bit bleak.
Have you ever done that classic ten-mile walk from Hayfield up on to The Pennine Way and over to Edale Cross? Recommended!
The old pub up Edale is one of my favourite walking stops too:
