title pic Seven songs

Yeah, thanks!

Nah, just kidding. Anything music related gives me a chance to fill a space that might otherwise be blank. And, when it comes to doing something that’s as… well, timely as this:

“List seven songs you’re into right now. No matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they’re not any good, but they must be songs you’re really enjoying now, shaping your spring.

… then why the heck not?! Given that preparations for the forthcoming holiday are in full flow, and I’ve been delving through my collection to formulate a playlist that encapsulates either a) recent personal feelings, or b) holiday-related stuff, this should be a doddle – if a diverse doddle.

So, here goes…

1. Christopher Cross – Sailing Okay, so I won’t actually be doing any sailing whilst down south, but no doubt there will be lots of boat-type things to look at, and this song has been putting me in that mindset for some weeks. And again, even though there will be no sailing involved, the lyrics are somewhat poignant.

2. Extreme – Hole Hearted There’s just something about this song. Can’t particularly say that I liked it when it first came out, back in 1991, but tastes change. Wonderful harmonies too.

3. Tori Amos – A Sorta Fairytale To be honest, it could have been any Tori Amos track – pretty much all of her stuff rates highly with me. But, currently, it’s this one.

4. Brand New Heavies – Back To Love For years, it’s been the dance version (to be precise, the Graeme Park remix) that has been a personal favourite. But, having recently come across their greatest hits collection, and heard the original – for the first time in years – I’d perhaps ignored for too long how good it sounds. A great message too, if you’re into songs with messages.

5. Perry-Gardner Orchestra – Sailing By Fans of the late-night shipping forecast on Radio 4 might be familiar with this piece of music – a tradition for donkey’s years, currently to be heard at about 00:45 every night. Another one that can be linked to just watching the ships go by – as this rather odd home-made video demonstrates…

6. Goldfrapp – A&E At last, something current. I remember seeing the video for this with the television muted, and latterly wishing that I’d actually had the sound up so I’d discovered the track a bit sooner! I’m not usually a Goldfrapp fan, but this is perhaps their finest hour in my book.

7. All About Eve – Farewell Mr Sorrow A massively underrated group, perhaps more reknowned for the infamous TOTP mishap than their music. Which is a shame, because this song is perfect for whenever you’re feeling a little down.

As is customary with a meme, I’m not tagging anyone – if you want to steal the idea for your blog, be my guest.
