title pic Silly season

Posted by Skytower on Sun January 18, 2009

Is it still the silly season? Let’s present three pieces of evidence to possibly substantiate this:

1. In a recent poll (always a good source for amusement) conducted by Sky TV, Noel Edmonds was revealed to be a more popular (potential) Prime Minister than Gordon Brown, garnering 14% to Brown’s 11.4%. Quite why people think the bearded one is suddenly a demi-God (who could run the country), when not fifteen years ago he inflicted Mr Blobby on us, I’m not sure…

2. Tomorrow is, apparently, “Blue Monday”. No, not the legendary New Order tune; apparently it is set to be the most depressing day of the year. So depressing, indeed, that a group of optimists (self-appointed, I guess) will endeavour to cheer up miserable celebrities such as Jeremy Paxman (Miserable?! Paxman?!) by sending them “cheer packages”. I’ve no idea what a “cheer package” is – maybe it contains a red nose and some silly string – but quite what the point of this is, is anybody’s guess.

3. Car exhausts can increase the amount of lightning strikes. There is possibly some scientific proof to back up this theory, but frankly it sounds like a load of tosh to me. Who cares, anyway?

Yeah, whatever.

Slightly sadder news with the death, aged 83, of the art legend Tony Hart. Those of us of a certain age will have watched with awe at his ease to create a simple piece of art, whilst still making it fantastically interesting. And, of course, we still remember Morph and co fondly.
